With the arrival of winter, many plants require certain care, so that low temperatures do not affect them too much and damage their health. That’s why we’re going to give you a few tips on how you should protect your plants, especially if you live in an area where temperatures are quite low during the cold season.

Tips to protect plants in winter

Those plants that are in a pot usually suffer more cold than those we have in the garden, so they need to be protected from dangers such as frost or intense cold.

One way to do this is to surround the flowerpot with bubble wrap, to prevent the cold from affecting it too much. If you do not have one, you can use a piece of burlap or a fabric that is as thick, as scraps of a carpet, for example. The most important thing is to prevent the wind from overcooling the pot and what’s inside it.

If you have plants on the windowsill, one of your worst enemies is the strong wind. To prevent them from falling, we can place a few stones on the substrate. Another option is to put those pots into another larger one that has the largest base and place the stones to ensure stability.

In case of extreme cold and frost, the whole plant can be covered at night, so that it does not affect it as much. This is also valid for those who are in the garden. If you have a group of plants, you can put four tutors or stakes, surrounding the group of plants and cover the perimeter with bubble wrap, cloth or a plastic, making sure everything is secure.

If the plants are on the windowsill, and there is a lot of wind or considerable frosts, it is best to put them inside, but away from sources of heat and dark places. In this way they will be more protected during the winter season.
